This is our third exhibition. For the past eight years we have been meeting every week at Buckden Village Hall. There are two weekly meetings (Wednesdays 9.30 to 12.30 and Thursdays 7.00 to 9.00). The original group started over 40 years ago in the art department of Huntingdon Technical College, expanded by joining with another group, and has based in Buckden for the last 8 years. All artist members (old and new) are always welcome and there is no need to enrol or attend every session. Just come along and draw whenever it suits. The mem- bers come from a wide range of interests, and this will show in the many works and variety of styles and materi- als in the exhibition. What unites us is the belief in the discipline of figure drawing, the study of anatomy, its revelatory insight through drawing skills, and how effectively it helps all other artistic endeavour. Which is why, from the renais- sance onwards it has been the vital essential centre of all art education. During the lockdown some models drifted away but as other drawing groups in the area (Cambridge, Bedford) have restarted and helped provide work for models from across East Anglia, so we have found enough new models to keep us busy. There is an etiquette of the drawing sessions - no pho- tography - and no talking while working. And we only show our work if members want to. But of course, the exhibition is a great time to see our work, framed and away from the clutter of the working studio. For all of us just the concentration of drawing gives a vis- ual challenge that is fascinating and utterly absorbing. All the weekly sessions have tea/coffee breaks which gives a friendly chance to swap art news, ideas, and a social con- tact within the enthusiastic group. We are delighted to have this chance to share our work (all for sale) and to encourage anyone interested to come and join us. In these curious times it ’ s a joy to be doing something so uplifting and civilising.
