The trustees contribute a great deal to the village in managing this well - used facility we are lucky enough to have. The role of Trustee is not demanding nor does it take a great deal of time. It does not require any special skills. The Hall is undertaking several large projects, including ren- ovating the pavilion, building a new storage facility and en- hancing the Valley which is silting up. If you are interested in getting involved or contributing project management skills or special wildlife knowledge, please get in touch to discuss our plans and a possible role. If you would like to make a major contribution to the village community please contact me (details below). Don ’ t forget that as residents of Buckden you all receive discounted rates on Hall hire. It is a cake making and sugar craft shop and welcomes customers to join a sugar craft class. Serena has been involved in sugar craft work for a long time and clearly enjoys it. Serena made “ Tete a Tete ” daffodils in sugar paste. She clearly showed each step in the making of daffodils and passed round each part of the daffodil, as she made it, so that members could have a closer look at the detail. Serena started with the stem and used wire to keep it firm. The flower was made in three parts and then assembled. Followed by the leaves which again had wire to support them. Once the daffodil was made it was left to dry naturally which takes a little time. Luckily Serena had brought some already done (like Blue Peter do) and was then able to show us how to colour the daffodils. Finally, Sere- na arranged the Tete a Tete daffodils in a brown pot to make a flower arrangement. Serena showed her passion for Sugar craft and members were fascinated by the demonstration. Some members felt inspired to have a go themselves at home either re - erecting a craft they used to do or, to learn a new craft. At the next Meeting Tuesday 7 th April 7:30pm in the Millard Suite at the village hall. Our speaker will be Hilary Blagbrough – who works for the British Antarctic Survey and her talk is called “ Working beneath The Bear ”. The competition is – How many words can be found in the word Constellation. We warmly welcome visitors and new members to our meetings. In the appendix about street names it says: “ Mayfield - A story recently circulated is that a previous lady owner with a cut - glass accent on hearing a discussion on its ownership stopped the talk by saying : ‘ But it ’ s m(a)y field ’. No native has ever talked of, e.g., May - pole dancing here. ” I'm afraid my Grandmother was responsible for that, and she giggled about it. She had lived in Sunnyside for 30 years. The developer of the housing site had come to her door and asked if she knew of any names by which the area was known. She and her husband used to pick mushrooms there, and yes, the owner was plummy, and had given them permission saying "it's m(a)y field". That was the story she told the developer, and that is what it was named.
